Crushers Win Home Opener

New Glasgow – The Pictou County Weeks Crushers opened the 2018/19 MHL Season with a bang Thursday night in front of 872 fans at the Pictou County Wellness Centre. Veteran forward Dylan Riley scored 47 seconds into overtime to lift the home side over the Valley Wildcats.

Evan MacLennan opened the scoring at 12:53 of the first period. Shots were 17-15 Wildcats after one period.  Tristan Bowlby evened things up for Valley at 16:26 of the second period, with the Crushers holding a 9-7 advantage in shots.

The Crushers found their legs in the third period, outshooting the Wildcats 25-12 but could not solve Liam MacDonald in the Valley net. Just 47 seconds into OT, Aiden Hickey sprung Riley on a breakaway and he made no mistake.

The Crushers went 0/2 on the PP while Valley went 0/6. MacDonald stopped 48 shots in goal for Valley while Matt Noremore made 35 for the Crushers.

The Crushers are back in action next Thursday night at the Wellness Centre versus the Amherst Ramblers.  Puck drop is 7pm
