in the importance of stressing the basic skills of hockey to players at a young

integrate basic puck skills. Obviously,
we want the kids to come out and meet some of our players and have some fun,
but we also want to make sure that these kids are learning the proper mechanics

The Weeks Junior A Crushers have named Jason Malone to be their new Head Coach and General Manager. Malone a native of Hampshire, Prince Edward Island most recently served as Head Coach of the Cornwall Thunder of the New Brunswick/PEI Major Midget Hockey League after assistant coaching jobs with PEI Rocket and Summerside Western Capitals of the MHL. As a player, he played in the Maritime Hockey League for four years with the Summerside and also in the AUS with the UPEI Panthers for two years. In addition, Jason is heavily involved and plays a leadership role with the Andrews Hockey Group in PEI.

“We are extremely pleased to bring Jason on board as he has a tremendous passion and respect for the game coupled with strong technical ability and experience as a player and coach”, states Wade Taylor President of the Weeks Junior A Crushers. “Going into the search process we clearly wanted someone who not only had the ability to have the Crushers perform at a high level on-ice, but to provide positive leadership off-ice and become engaged in the community and in Jason we are confident we have the right person.”

Malone is looking forward to continue a winning tradition in Pictou County and says, "I'm extremely pleased to be a part of an organization for which I have a tremendous amount of respect. I'm looking forward to getting situated within the community of Pictou County and working with a group of people who have the same objectives as I do." The Crushers have a very strong nucleus of players returning and with the addition of Justin Chaision at the draft and potential return of Marc Bourgeois from major junior, expectations will be building on a successful 2009/10 season.

Ryan Fortune, Assistant Captain with the Crusher’s last season points out, “I really look forward to Jason coming in. Having someone with recent playing experience, who will bring in some fresh ideas is something that is going to be great to be part of. ”
