TERRY O’REILLY AND RICK MIDDLETON TO BE MARQUEE GUESTS AT 2010 WEEKS CELEBRITY GOLF TOURNAMENT
This year we are excited to have two former captains of the Boston Bruins Terry O'Reilly and Rick Middleton be our Marquee Guests at this year’s 2010 Scott Weeks Celebrity Golf Tournament. O'Reilly was nicknamed "Taz" by coach Don Cherry and was well known for his reckless, hard driving, non-stop style of play. Terry spent his entire career in Boston, serving as the captain of the Bruins team during the 1983-84 and 1984-85 seasons before his retirement. Joining Terry is fellow teammate, Rick Middleton, a twelve year veteran and also a former Captain of the Boston Bruins. Middleton a first round draft pick for the New York Rangers in 1974. Rick played in the Canada Cup in 1981 and 1984. Middleton was one of very few players in the NHL who was strong on both the power-play and as a penalty killer. He retired from the game after recording 448 goals, 540 assists for 988 in 1005 games. Marty Malcolm, Co-Chairman of this year’s Scott Weeks Celebrity Golf Tournament is delighted to have these two great Boston Bruins Captains at this event July 15th and 16th at the Abercrombie Golf Club. In the past at this event many Maritime hockey personalities have been profiled, all of whom have played at the College, Major Junior and Professional Level including local favourite Lowell MacDonald and Weeks Major Midgets alumni Colin White, Jon Sim, Derek Walser and Joey MacDonald. Past marquee celebrities have included Wendel Clark, Jean Beliveau, Yvan Courneyor, Bobby Hull, Brad Park, Gerry Cheevers, Lanny MacDonald, Doug Gilmour, Mike Bossy, Darrell Sittler, Al MacInnis and Marcel Dionne.
Wade Taylor, President of the Weeks Hockey Organization states “this golf tournament is the foundation of the Scott Weeks Bursary Program which has provided financial support to Fifty-three (53) members of our Weeks Alumni family.” Last year five (5) $1750 bursaries were awarded to current and former Weeks Major Midget and Junior A Crushers players who have demonstrated athletic and academic excellence and social responsibility.

Weeks Major Midgets Players Do Well At QMJHL Draft
CRUSHERS ANNOUNCE TERRITORIAL PICKS
Press Release June 7, 2010
The Weeks Crushers announced Monday that they have chosen two former teammates and standouts of the Pictou County Scotsburn Bantam AAA as their territorial picks for the 2010 MJAHL entry draft. Daniel Thomsen and Steven MacNeil, both of New Glasgow have been chosen by the Crushers and will be looking to crack the line-up this up-coming season.
Thomsen, a smooth skating power forward spent this past season in Saint John, NB playing with the Rothesay Netherwood Riverhawks. Rothesay is an independent boarding school which has an extensive athletic program. The Riverhawks compete in a very competitive league leading to Conference, Regional and Provincial tournaments. The Boy’s Varsity Hockey team also took part in several tournaments throughout Canada and the United States. In 36 league games this season, Thomsen averaged a point per game, scoring 12 goals and adding 26 assists, for 38 points. He was also a member of Team Nova Scotia’s Under 16 team which captured a gold medal at the 2009 Atlantic Challenge Cup. “We are looking forward to seeing Daniel at training Camp” assistant coach Jeff Green said. “His size and speed should make him difficult to play against and that’s what we’ll be looking for from him”.
MacNeil, a former captain of the Bantam AAA, spent this past season playing with the Weeks Major Midgets of the NSMMHL. MacNeil plays a hard nosed style of game, something that assistant coach Chad McDavid says will make him a fan favorite in the eyes of his hometown fans. “Steven plays with an edge. He works hard, finishes his checks and competes every shift. He’s the type of player every coach wants to have on your team.” In 34 games this season, MacNeil had 10 goals and 7 assists, while helping the Weeks Midgets to the league final.
The fact that the Crushers have identified both Thomsen and MacNeil as their pick’s, doesn’t mean that they were the only two local hockey players on their short list. “We’ve been very fortunate the last couple of seasons to have some very good talent coming out of the Pictou County Minor Hockey system” says team President Wade Taylor. “There are some very good young hockey players in the County and our goal is to have as many of them as we can in our line-up.” With their Territorial picks now made, the Crushers focus will shift to the upcoming MJAHL Entry Draft which takes place this weekend in Bridgewater.
Dumville Resigns from Crushers
June 02, 2010
After just one season at the helm of the Weeks Jr A Crushers, Head Coach and GM Troy Dumville has decided to step away from the position. “It was an extremely tough decision but one that had to be made” said Dumville following the announcement. “It was a difficult year balancing the new position and a nine year old daughter in Moncton who suffers from Cystic Fibrosis and spent a lot of time in hospital” added Dumville. “I am very proud of what I accomplished here this season. Anytime you come into a new organization, there are lots of challenges to overcome and I felt very good about where the team finished the season. I was very fortunate to have a great group of players to work with and I will miss the hockey staff that made life enjoyable coming to the rink on a daily basis” acknowledged Dumville. Dumville leaves a team behind that is geared up for another run at a championship this season. “The hardest part about leaving is knowing that this year’s team is going to be even better than last years. I wish the organization good luck in bringing a league title to Pictou County” said Dumville. “The Weeks Hockey Organization is supportive of this move and wish Troy all the best in his future endeavours”, says President Wade Taylor. “We had a great run and under Troy won our first division title, which we are extremely proud of.” The Crushers are clearly focused on the upcoming MJAHL draft June 11 and 12 in Bridgewater to fill a couple of needs for this year and as well add future prospects to build for the future. The draft will be coordinated by assistant coaches Jeff Green and Chad McDavid, Head Scout Tim Boyce and Taylor. “We are fortunate to have these individuals and have done a great deal of the work already coupled with a strong supporting network will help ensure we have a successful draft. These guys were instrumental in the success at the 2009 draft”, states Taylor. The team will be announcing their 2010 territorial picks within the week.

Crushers take Lead of Series - Game 6 Monday night at Stadium

The Pictou County Weeks Junior A Crushers have placed the Truro Bearcats on notice after a 4-2 victory in Game 5 at the Colchester Legion Stadium in Truro on Saturday evening. With the win the Crushers now lead the Bent Division series 3-2 and the Bearcats are on the brink of elimination. Weeks netminder Justin Collier pictured above was sterling in nets for the Crushers and was named second all-star. Crushers forward Michael Hynes with two goals and one assist was the first all-star while Dana Fraser of the Bearcats got the nod for third all-star. Hynes opened the scoring while Tyler Noseworthy's power play goal gave the Crushers a 2-0 lead to end the first period. Hynes had what would prove to be the game winner with an exciting short-handed goal on a breakaway. This gave the Crushers a 3-0 lead at the end of the second. Truro's Yuri Cheremetieve robbed Collier of the shutout when he scored on a power play to get the Bearcats on the scoreboard. Truro pushed hard and rallied in the third to bring it within one goal when Doug Burns scored for the Bearcats to make it 3-2. Crushers Coach Troy Dumville called a strategic time out that worked and allowed for his team to regroup. Scott McDonald added the insurance marker at 15:46 in the third which sealed the victory for the Crushers. Game 6 in the series will take place at the Crushers house- John Brother MacDonald Stadium in New Glasgow at 7:30 pm in New Glasgow.

Crushers Eliminate Lions
Halifax- The Pictou County Weeks Crushers dramatically ended the Halifax Lions season last night in front of nearly 1200 fans at the Halifax Fourm. In a series that had everything from blowouts to double overtime endings, the two teams arguably saved their best finish for last.
Crushers forward Sean Hoyt gave the Crushers a late lead in the third period when he finished off a great pass from Cpt. Geoff Hum to score a shorthanded marker. With a little more than a minute remaining, the Lions were able to tie the game on a power play goal of their own. Then, with only 7 seconds remaining in the game, Crusher sniper Dan Joyce came off the bench, took a pass from Cody Roland and was able to beat Lions goaltender Kody Blois, sending the Crushers to the Bent Division Finals.
Also scoring for the Crushers in the win was Hum, and Hoyt (2). During the game the Crushers hit seven posts and were finally able to solve Blois late in the 2nd period. Although hyping up their "underdog" status for most of the series, the Lions only finished 8 points back of the Crushers in the regular season and actually won the season series against the Crushers. The Lions threw everything they had at the Crushers which made for a very entertaining series.
Moving forward, the Crushers now must prepare for a match up with the Truo Bearcats. The same Bearcat sqaud that was 5 - 1 versus the Crushers this season, including a 7-0 thumping in their last meeting. Fans should expect some entertaining games throughout this series, which gets underway this Saturday, March 20th in Truro.
Sunday Win
Adam Chipman, #12 for the Pictou County Weeks Crushers beats the Halifax Lions’ goaltender Kody Blois with the power play game winner to put the Crushers up 3-1 as captain Geoff Hum is ready for the rebound. The Crushers dominated the Lions 7-2 in Game 5 of the best of seven Bent Division semi final series Sunday night at the John Brother MacDonald Stadium in New Glasgow and with the winnow lead the series 3-2. Mathieu Boudreau led the Crushers with two goals and one assist while Chipman and Dan Joyce both added a pair each. Chipman was also the Game’s First Star while Boudreau was Second Star and Weeks goalie Justin Collier was named Third Star. Weeks outshot the Lions 42-37. Game 6 takes place Tuesday evening at 7:00 pm in Halifax.
