Ramblers get by Crushers


The Amherst Ramblers (29-19-2-3) eased past the Pictou County Weeks Crushers (25-22-1-5) 4-1 Thursday night in New Glasgow.

Justin Matthews led the Ramblers with 1 goal and 1 assist.

Adam Chipman opened the scoring at 15:12 to give the Ramblers a 1-0 lead. Adam Verrette (game winner) scored at 19:57 to extend the lead to 2-0 after the first period. Andrew Joudrey scored at 9:08 to cut the lead in half at 2-1 after the second period. Matthews scored an insurance goal at 16:56 to increase the lead to 3-1. Kody Orr (empty net) rounded out the scoring at 19:51.

Amherst went 0 for 5 on the powerplay while Pictou County went 0 for 4.

Andrew Flemming stopped 21 of 22 shots for the win while Alex Newman stopped 26 of 29 shots in the loss.

Mariners blank Crushers 6-0


The Yarmouth Mariners (28-18-2-4) shut out the Weeks Crushers (25-20-1-5) 6-0 on Sunday night at the Mariners Centre. Carl Hayes, Adam Donovan and Lynden Proctor each earned a goal and an assist in the lop-sided win.

Jordan Scott opened scoring at 9:28 of the first. In the second, Adam Donovan scored a powerplay marker at 4:19, followed by a goal from Tyler Williams at 7:42. Neil Coombs opened scoring in the third at 1:46, followed by Lynden Proctor at 8:50 and then Carl Hayes at 11:37.

The Crushers went 0 for 3 on the powerplay while the Mariners went 1 for 6.

Justin Collier earned the shutout win stopping 28 shots while Alexandre Quessy stopped 34 of 40 in the loss.

Crushers Rally To Edge Mariners In Shootout


The Pictou County Weeks Crushers (25-20-1-5) rallied to edge the Yarmouth Mariners (28-17-2-4) 2-1 in a shootout Thursday night in New Glasgow.

After a scoreless opening period, Patrick Smith (powerplay) scored at 13:14 to give the Mariners a 1-0 lead after the second period. Shawn O'Donnell scored at 18:38 to tie the game at 1-1 and send it into overtime. There was no scoring in the extra frame and they went to a shootout. In the shootout, Jordan Scott replied for the Mariners while O'Donnell and Geoff Hum (game winner) scored for Crushers to get the win.

Pictou County went 0 for 5 on the powerplay while Yarmouth went 1 for 5.

Alexandre Quessy stopped 42 of 43 shots for the tie while Dallas Ungurian stopped 41 of 42 shots also in the tie.

Bearcats Double Crushers


The Truro Bearcats (32-10-1-5) doubled the Pictou County Weeks Crushers (24-19-1-5) 6-3 Saturday night in Truro.

Mike Veysey led the Bearcats with 2 goals while Chris Ivanko and Steve Pearson added 1 goal and 1 assist each.

Dana Fraser (powerplay) opened the scoring at 1:16 to give the Bearcats an early 1-0 lead. Pearson scored at 14:43 to extend the lead to 2-0. Ivanko (powerplay) scored at 16:03 to increase the lead to 3-0 after the first period. Cody Roland (game winner) scored at 7:36 to widen the lead to 4-0. Shawn O'Donnell (powerplay) scored at 11:02 to get the Crushers on the scoreboard at 4-1. O'Donnell (powerplay, second goal of game) scored 25 seconds later at 11:27 to cut the lead in half at 4-2. Veysey scored at 12:21 to make the score 5-2 after the second period. Kevin MacLean scored at 13:56 to move Pictou County to within 2 goals at 5-3. Veysey (empty net, second goal of game) rounded out the scoring at 19:16.

Truro went 2 for 6 on the powerplay while Pictou County went 2 for 4.

Kirk Rafuse stopped 29 of 32 shots for the win while Alexandre Quessy (20:00) stopped 5 of 8 shots before being replaced by Alex Newman. Newman (39:38) stopped 18 of 20 shots in the loss.

Lumberjacks Edge Crushers In Shootout


The Bridgewater Nauss TIM-BR Mart Lumberjacks (16-24-5-3) edged the Pictou County Weeks Crushers (24-18-1-5) 5-4 in a shootout Thursday night in New Glasgow.

Matt Snow led the Lumberjacks with 2 goals and 1 assist while Sam MacCormick added 1 goal and 1 assist. Shawn O'Donnell led the Crushers with 3 goals with Jamie Caron adding 1 goal and 2 assists.

Snow opened the scoring at 1:07 to give the Lumberjacks an early 1-0 lead. Scott Theriault scored at 9:46 to extend the lead to 2-0. MacCormick (powerplay) scored at 14:14 to increase the lead to 3-0 after the first period. Snow (second goal of game) scored at 12:48 to widen the Bridgewater lead to 4-0. O'Donnell scored at 16:29 to get the Crushers on the scoreboard at 4-1. O'Donnell (powerplay, second goal of game) scored 2:00 later at 18:23 to cut the lead in half at 4-2 after the second period. There was no scoring for Pictou County.

Slammers Trip Crushers


The Woodstock Slammers (30-12-1-5) won for the 11th straight time as they tripped the Pictou County Weeks Crushers (24-18-1-4) 3-1 Saturday night in Woodstock.

John Chayka and Brad Jackson led the Slammers with 1 goal and 1 assist each while Bruno Gosselin added 2 assists.

Adam Laite opened the scoring at 13:05 to give the Slammers a 1-0 lead after the first period. Jeremy Sheppard scored at 7:37 to tie the game 1-1 after the second period. Chayka (game winner) scored at 17:15 to give Woodstock the lead at 2-1. Jackson (empty net) added an insurance goal 1:24 later at 18:39 to seal the win.

The Bridgewater Nauss TIM-BR Mart Lumberjacks (15-21-4-3) tripped the Pictou County Weeks Crushers (24-16-1-4) 5-2 Sunday afternoon in Bridgewater.

Matt Stoddard and Mickey MacDonald led the Lumberjacks with 1 goal and 2 assists each while Jake Lewis added 1 goal and 1 assist.

MacDonald opened the scoring at 8:15 to give the Lumberjacks a 1-0 lead after the first period. Stoddard scored 48 seconds into the middle frame to extend the lead to 2-0. Kevin MacLean scored at 11:20 to cut the lead in half at 2-1. Sam McCormack (game winner) scored at 13:20 to regain the Bridgewater two goal lead at 3-1. Matt Snow scored at 17:54 to increase the lead to 4-1 after the second period. MacLean (powerplay, second goal of game) scored at 2:51 to make the score 4-2 for the Lumberjacks. Lewis rounded out the scoring at 4:35.

Bridgewater went 0 for 6 on the powerplay while Pictou County went 1 for 9.
