Crushers Pound Lions


The Pictou County Weeks Crushers (19-12-1-3) pounded the Halifax Lions (6-26-2-3) 7-0 Tuesday night in Halifax.

Shawn O'Donnell led the Crushers with 2 goals and 3 assists while Sean Hoyt added 1 goal and 2 assists.

Geoff MacNaughton (game winner) opened the scoring at 1:23 to give the Crushers a 1-0 lead after the first period. Mathieu Boudreau (powerplay) scored 25 seconds into the middle frame to extend the lead to 2-0. Trent MacDonald (powerplay) scored at 2:42 to increase the lead to 3-0. O'Donnell scored at 7:33 to widen the lead to 4-0. Hoyt scored at 12:34 to make the score 5-0 after the second period. Stuart Lenehan scored 44 seconds into the third period to run the score to 6-0. O'Donnell (second goal of game) rounded out the scoring at 6:38.

Pictou County went 2 for 8 on the powerplay while Halifax went 0 for 12.

Alex Newman stopped all 48 shots he faced for the shutout victory while newly acquired Kody Blois stopped 31 of 38 shots in the loss.

Crushers Edge Mariners In Overtime


The Pictou County Weeks Crushers (18-12-1-3) edged the Yarmouth Mariners (18-13-1-1)
5-4 in overtime Friday night in Yarmouth.

Shawn O'Donnell led the Crushers with 2 goals and 1 assist while Ryan Nickerson led the Mariners with 1 goal and 2 assists.

Renel Deveau (powerplay) scored at 1:57 to give the Mariners an early 1-0 lead. O'Donnell (powerplay) scored at 4:48 to tie the game 1-1. Stuart Lenehan scored at 16:00 to give the Crushers a 2-1 lead. Cody Lefrancois (powerplay) scored at 18:32 to retie the game 2-2 after the first period. Lefrancois (powerplay, second goal of game) scored at 5:21 to retake the lead for Yarmouth at 3-2. Jordie Shaw scored at 14:10 to deadlock the game at 3-3. Sean Hoyt (powerplay) scored at 19:07 to give Pictou County a 4-3 lead after the second period. Nickerson scored at 3:07 to knot the game at 4-4 and force extra time. In overtime, O'Donnell (game winner, second goal of game) scored at 2:34 for the win.

Pictou County went 2 for 6 on the powerplay while New Glasgow went 3 for 7.

Alex Newman stopped 28 of 32 shots for the win while Dallas Ungurian stopped 27 of 32 shots in the loss.

Crushers Double Bearcats


The Pictou County Weeks Crushers (17-12-1-3) doubled the Truro Bearcats (22-7-1-3) 4-2 Thursday night in New Glasgow.

Shawn O'Donnell led the Crushers with 2 goals and 1 assist.

O'Donnell opened the scoring at 8:21 to give the Crushers a 1-0 lead. Colin Beck (powerplay) scored at 12:09 to tie the game 1-1. Luke Cudmore scored at 15:39 to give the Bearcats a 2-1 lead after the first period. O'Donnell (second goal of game) scored at 2:33 to knot the score at 2-2. Kevin MacLean (game winner) scored at 18:11 to give Pictou County the lead at 3-2 after the second period. Andrew Joudrey (empty net) rounded out the scoring at 19:50 to seal the win.

Pictou County went 0 for 3 on the powerplay while Truro went 1 for 4.

Alexandre Quessy stopped 18 of 20 shots for the win while Richard Gagnon stopped 23 of 26 shots in the loss.

Crushers Edge Lumberjacks in Overtime


The Pictou County Weeks Crushers (16-11-1-2) rallied from a 2 goal deficit to edge the Bridgewater Nauss TIM-BR Mart Lumberjacks (10-14-2-3) 5-4 in overtime Thursday night in New Glasgow.

Geoff Hum led the Crushers with 3 goals while Paul Ross led the Lumberjacks with 2 goals and 1 assist.

Hum (powerplay) opened the scoring at 12:46 to give the Crushers a 1-0 lead. Evan Sparling scored at 16:09 to tie the game 1-1. Hum (powerplay, second goal of game) scored at 17:56 to give Pictou County a 2-1 lead after the first period. Ross scored at 3:25 to retie the game 2-2. Ross (second goal of game) scored at 9:06 to give Bridgewater a 3-2 lead after the second period. Scott Theriault scored at 3:39 to increase the Lumberjacks lead to 4-2. Andrew Joudrey scored at 5:54 to cut the lead to a goal at 4-3. Shawn O'Donnell scored with the goalie pulled at 19:37 to deadlock the game at 4-4 and force extra time. In overtime, Hum (game winner, third goal of game) scored at 1:37 for the win.
