The Yarmouth Mariners (10-4-0-0) defeated the Pictou County Weeks Crushers (9-5-1-1) 3-1 Thursday night in New Glasgow.
Michael Best led the Mariners with 2 goals.
Best (unassisted) scored at 12:54 to give the Mariners a 1-0 lead after
the first period. Shawn O'Donnell scored at 9:09 to tie the game 1-1.
Carl Hayes (game winner) scored at 15:17 to regain the Yarmouth lead at
2-1 after the second period. Best (powerplay, second goal of game)
rounded out the scoring at 16:02.
Yarmouth went 1 for 6 on the powerplay while Pictou County went 0 for 6.
Dallas Ungurian stopped 33 of 34 shots for the win before being
replaced by Justin Collier after Ungurian received a fighting major.
Collier stopped the only shot he faced while Alexandre Quessy stopped
29 of 32 shots in the loss.

Bearcats Rally To Defeat Crushers In Shootout

The Truro Bearcats (10-2-1-1) rallied from a 1 goal deficit to defeat the Pictou County Weeks Crushers (9-4-1-1) 4-3 in a shootout Sunday night in Truro.
Travis Moore led the Bearcats with 1 goal while Shawn O'Donnell led the Crushers with 1 goal and 2 assist.
Adam Laite (powerplay) scored at 2:23 to give the Bearcats an early 1-0 lead. O'Donnell scored at 10:33 to tie the game 1-1 after the first period. Geoff McNaughton (powerplay) scored at 6:52 to give the Crushers a 2-1 lead. Sam Caldwell scored at 13:40 to retie the score 2-2. Geoff Hum (powerplay) scored 1:11 later at 14:51 to regain the lead for Pictou County at 3-2 after the second period. Moore scored at 15:46 to once again tie the game 3-3 and send it into overtime. There was no scoring in the extra frame and the game went to a shootout. In the shootout, Hum and Neil Pashkoski scored for the Crushers while Jon Reid, Brett Frazee and Mike Veysey (game winner) scored for Truro. Both goaltenders were outstanding during the shootout as it took 12 shooters from each team to decide the winner.
Truro went 2 for 7 on the powerplay while Pictou County went 2 for 8.
Kirk Rafuse stopped 20 of 23 shots for the tie while Alexandre Quessy stopped 57 of 60 shots also in the tie.

The Summerside Western Capitals (10-3-0-0) edged the Pictou County Weeks Crushers (8-4-1-0) 2-1 Thursday night in New Glasgow. Summerside runs their record to 9-1 in their last 10 games.
Harrison McIver opened the scoring at 10:31 to give the Western
Capitals a 1-0 lead after the first period. Sean Hoyt scored at 6:28 to
tie the game 1-1 after the second period. Brett Gallant (powerplay,
game winner) scored at 12:04 to give Summerside the win.
Summerside went 1 for 4 on the powerplay while Pictou County went 0 for 5.
Alex Dupuis stopped 31 of 32 shots for the win while Max Pelzner stopped 34 of 36 shots in the loss.

The Pictou County Weeks Crushers (6-3-1-0) doubled up on the Bridgewater Nauss TIM-BR Mart Lumberjacks (4-6-0-0) 4-2 Sunday night in Bridgewater.
Ryan Fortune led the Crushers with 1 goal and 1 assist while Matt Binnington led the Lumberjacks with 1 goal and 1 assist.
Robbie Little (unassisted) opened the scoring at 12:37 to give the Crushers a 1-0 lead after the first period. Jeremy Sheppard (powerplay) scored at 6:08 to extend the lead to 2-0. Binnington (powerplay) scored at 9:42 to cut the lead in half at 2-1. Matt Fitzgibbons (powerplay) scored at 13:32 to tie the game 2-2 after the second period. Fortune (powerplay, game winner) scored at 8:27 to regain the lead for Pictou County at 3-2. Sean Hoyt (unassisted empty net) rounded out the scoring at 19:53.
Pictou County went 2 for 4 on the powerplay while Bridgewater went 2 for 8.
Alexandre Quessy was outstanding as he stopped 56 of 58 shots for the win while TJ Keeping stopped 23 of 26 shots in the loss.

Slammers Down Crushers
The Woodstock Slammers (4-3-0-1) downed the Pictou County Weeks Crushers (5-2-1-0) 6-1 Thursday night in New Glasgow.
Todd Cusack led the Slammers with 2 goals while Brogan Bailey, John Chayka and Mike Connolly added 1 goal and 1 assist each.
Connolly opened the scoring at 2:11 to give the Slammers an early 1-0
lead. Cusack (powerplay, game winner) scored at 12:08 to extend the
lead to 2-0 after the first period. Bailey scored 27 seconds into the
middle frame to increase the lead to 3-0. Chayka scored 1:02 later at
1:29 to widen the Woodstock lead to 4-0. Cusack (powerplay, second goal
of game) scored at 12:14 to built a 5-0 lead. Alex Noonan (powerplay)
scored 1:27 later at 13:41 to increase the lead to 6-0 after the second
period. Stuart Lenehan scored to break up Black's shutout bid at 10:39
for the Crushers only goal.
Woodstock went 3 for 6 on the powerplay while Pictou County went 0 for 9.
Curtis Black stopped 26 of 27 shots for the win while Alexandre Quessy
(33:07) stopped 18 of 23 shots in the loss before being replaced by Max
Pelzner. Pelzner (26:53) stopped 11 of 12 shots the remainder of the
game.
